  Why are the colors in the TV show "House" so washed out?

  0 0 I'm sure it's done intentionally, most likely through a computer technique called digital color grading. There was a great featurette about it on one of the LOTR DVD's...watch it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M4zRMLbZZxw. After I saw how it was used in LOTR, I now notice it everywhere. My guess is that they introduce a lot of blues into the spectrum and back off on other colors, in order to give everything a cold, sterile feel (and to ramp up the drama, and to make House look even more sallow).   Fear that you will jump from high places?

  0 0 It happens to me too. I notice it on bridges, balconies, or ferry guardrails. In my case, I think it's just my brain overthinking what WOULD happen if I did, and gauging the hardness/unpleasantness of the surface below, while the part of me that keeps myself from doing that is sleeping because it's content in the knowledge that I won't. In other words, the "what-if" is louder than the "you won't." Possibilities over probabilities. In terms of addressing it, I just do my best to ignore it and not give those thoughts any power.   Best way to harvest and use feverfew?

  1 0 One great resource we have in town is the Herbalist over in Roosevelt. They can provide all sorts of info on all sorts of different herbs and the best ways to extract the goodness in infusions, decoctions, tisanes, etc. They can also tell you if there's anything you need to watch out for regarding dosage. I don't know if feverfew is a red-flag plant, but others (Digitalis, pennyroyal) are not to be messed with lightly. https://www.theherbalist.com/ P.S. In my own experience, you can eat feverfew raw but it's hella bitter. Maybe drying it and getting it in a capsule would work? Again, check with the Herbalist.   Should we change the name of Washington State?

  2 1 I would settle for changing our flag from a big ol' scowling Washington head to some other state imagery. We can keep the nice green background. Other than that, while I would be happy that the state isn't named for a dead white guy and that people wouldn't constantly be confusing us with D.C. (I watched Get Smart as a kid and thought that all the federal spy stuff was happening in Olympia), the name probably has too much historical momentum to change. Plus, SoundsLikePuget is right. Eastern Washingtonians already complain that Seattle is unfairly overrepresented (unsurprising, based on population distribution), and renaming the state "Seattle" would go over very, very badly. Can't blame them, I wouldn't want to rename the state "Spokane" either. I do think that we should rename Rainier "Tahoma," though. And I've heard that only non-Alaskans call Denali "Mt. McKinley."
