  • How do I fix my challah?
    Avatar_default

Raisins and chocolate are generally only (traditionally) acceptable on Rosh HaShanna where a round challah is made for a sweet new year. If you want to add a topping, sesame seeds are relatively benign.

  • Why do people order double cheeseburgers, large fries, and a DIET coke?
    Avatar_default

I grew up (am growing up) on diet soda. It tastes wrong to not have a diet soda...also about habit.

Then again, I would never order a double cheeseburger or large fries (unless they were curly fries...YUM)

  • Does anyone understand Initiative 1100?
    Avatar_default

Yes. I have at least a decent understanding.

I-1100 would get rid of liquor stores and liquor taxes. It would establish new licenses which benefit large retailers with many outlets. IIRC it also instructs the legislature to recoup the substantial taxation difference between 1100 and current levels.

1100 harms small business breweries because retailers only have a certain amount of space in their store for alcoholic beverages (or any products for that matter). The profit margin on hard liquor is higher than for small microbrews so the microbrews will probably be forced out of the market.

I support privatization, but I think this is an issue with too many interest groups and conflicting interests to be solved via initiatives.

  • Which of those initiatives should I sign?
    Avatar_default

I-1098 if you support social services and a more progressive tax structure

I-1068 if you support legalizing Marijuana and saving the state $150 million/year

I believe I-1100 and I-1105 to be flawed ways to privatize alcohol because they would erode the tax base.Do not sign them

Do not sign I-1053 (Eyman's initiative) and I-1082 (BIAW's initiative), and I-1107 (Candy and soda industry initiative)

Also read this, it was in the Stranger last week

  • Where in Seattle can I find good rugalach??
    Avatar_default

I had some great rugalach for my bar mitzvah...it was flown in from New York. I know Blazing Bagels makes some, and I think it's pretty decent. They also make pretty good black and white cookies. Alas, they are on the Eastside
