  Where's the best place to watch the pride parades here in Seattle?

  0 0 From within! I always have more fun marching. Barring that, though, try to find a friend with a balcony overlooking the route. Last year I watched from the sidewalk right in front of Cinerama, and was able to have a perfect, unobstructed view. The folks with the lawn chairs who arrived early were the real winners, though.   1 2 Here's what we should all be doing: never letting a straight wedding pass without acknowledgment of queer people's second class citizen status. (I suggest drunken gay toasts, with a lot of laughs but a slight tinge of bitterness, just to ensure that our straight family and friends are aware that the joy they are celebrating is directly at our expense.)   How do I find out if my relative is gay?

  1 0 Here's the thing. It really and truly is HIS business if he wants to come out. He may be waiting for the "right time" to come out, he may still be figuring his shit out or he may never come out to your "don't ask don't tell" kind of family. It's his choice, and his life. However, it's really cool that you want to support him. I say bring it up from your own perspective. When I was younger, it was always easier to come out to someone who gave me an opening like, "God, it drives me crazy how puritanical this school/group/family is. They're all such homophobic Republican prudes!" or what have you. Let him know how your family's style bothers YOU, then ask if it bothers HIM, then go ahead and ask if he's a 'mo.   Is it acceptable to tell your gay neighbor that taking his male cat to the dog beauty salon is "so very, very gay"?

  2 0 Wow, that IS pretty gay. But what's tricky is, if we're using the word "gay" with any kind of stigma or eyeroll attached to it, we might potentially be contributing to the homophobic culture that has kids killing themselves after school. We need to find other words. Especially for things that really, really "are" "gay"... like the costume choices on Saved by the Bell. Or Abercrombie & Fitch bags. WE know what we mean, but we can't guarantee that everyone on the receiving (or overhearing) end shares our same set of experiences.   4 0 Make friends. Don't go to bars looking for hookups and don't troll the sex-infested waters of Craig's List; instead, simply make friends with lesbians. There are soccer teams for this. And Tegan & Sara concerts. The more lesbians you know, the greater the chance that some of them will develop crushes on you. Don't lie about your inexperience, but don't make it a big deal either. A simple, "I'd love to make out with a girl, I just haven't really had the right opportunity!" can be a huge turn on. And believe me, word will get around that you are on the market. Fresh meat.
