I tend to love the fall and winter myself - there's so much to see with autumn harvest and grape crush for the huge wine industry east of the Cascade Mountains. (Washington State is 2nd in the nation for wine production and first in organic produce!)

I'm a snowboarder so thought I'd mention some of the new happenings: Crystal Mountain has a new Gondola this year to whisk you to the Summit in comfort. White Pass Ski Resort has doubled their land use (and it wasn't easy!) to create two new quad lifts and Snoqualmie Pass Ski Resort has added two new lifts to backcountry which was not accessible in the past.

Spring brings the blossoms in the orchards, as well as the incredible Skagit Valley Tulip Festival and summer - well there is nothing more beautiful than a sunny Washington State day!

Good for you to move to such a beautiful location in our state! It will take you about 55 minutes to access the Bainbridge Island Ferry and then add to that another 35 minutes crossing time.

I'd plan many day trips to Seattle from that location and such a nice way to travel - on the water!

I think both are excellent ideas, however, be mindful of your time driving. I know it may look like a quick hop to Cape Flattery, but add a little extra time in as the road is not fast moving. Also remember that you will be on Makah Tribal Land and you'll need to purchase a Use permit that runs about $10.00. It's certainly worth it though, scenery like nowhere else on earth! Also if you're traveling to Cape Flattery during the dates of July 19 - 24, the Canoe Journey 2010 will be in full swing. Amazing event hosting tribes from the Pacific Northwest and Canada. Main day is today, but events will be held until the 24th.

Of course our National Park lodges are always a good choice to be "in nature" on the Peninsula. Lake Crescent Lodge, Lake Quinault and Kalaloch are rustic and charming. For something right on the beach, check out the Quileute Oceanside Resort that offers luxury beachfront cabins with jetted tubs, decks, fireplaces and full kitchens. Located in La Push, right on the beach - this is a great jumping off point for Second and Third Beach hikes, not to mention just a short drive to the Hoh Rain Forest! www.quileuteoceanside.com

Grove of the Patriarchs (in Ohanapecosh), by Mt. Rainier, is a lovely hike through old growth forest along the river and you get to cross a fun suspension bridge! The trail is relatively easy and washrooms are located next to the trail head at the edge of the parking lot.
