Yes. The protocol is to scrape the wart, wrap the duct tape over it, and leave on for six days. Then remove the duct tape for one day, scrape again, and put on a new piece for another six days. Repeat the cycle for 6 weeks.

This method is more effective in studies than cryotherapy, and certainly less expensive as you avoid weekly doctor's office visits - for 6-8 weeks - of freezing therapy. The warts also tend to recur less than with cryotherapy.

  • Do you have any advice for dealing with chronic UTIs?
    P1000628_small

It sounds like you are taking great steps to figure this out. Having a culture to confirm it is an infection, and wht type of infection it is - both important steps. Recurrent UTIs can suggest other minor issues in the urethra, and seeing a urologist is also a good idea, to be thorough. I have seen oral birth control increase UTIs in some women, as well as the other factors Dr. Dodge lists below. Another one I would add to the list is whether you have a new partner.

There are other sound options you can use besides antibiotics, if you catch the infection early enough and have close monitoring with your doctor to prevent progression to kidney infections. One additional piece I would consider for you would be a high-quality probiotic. Again, your doctor can advise you on specifics; it is an important piece if you have done a few rounds of antibiotics.

  • Why cant i ever sleeep???? I need a lot of sleep but i can never get there. Any tips suggestions on how to go to sleep?
    P1000628_small

There are many factors contributing to difficulty falling asleep including: thyroid issues, hormone dysregulation, sleep apnea, anxiety, issues of sleep hygiene...This is a good time to have some further investigation with your physician. After some basic tests and suggestions, a sleep study may be warranted.

If you start with the basics of healthy sleep habits, you'll give valuable information to your doctor at that visit. The general recommendations include: no TV or computer 30 minutes before bed; have all lights off in the room; no caffeine after your morning cup; have a cup of relaxing tea before bed; practice meditation or some other relaxation technique once you are in bed. If doing all these steps don't ellicit results, do see you doctor to look for other causes.

This is a rare occurence, as you have noted. I would also consider any changes to supplements or you diet as you try to investigate the cause.

If you are looking for clinics that can implant her fertilized egg in you, you will want to work with one of your local fertility clinics. Here in Seattle, you can contact Seattle Reproductive Medicine or Pacific NW Fertility clinics to inquire about their services. Either center may have additional leads on resources, especially if costs are an issue.

  • Sleep troubles....
    P1000628_small

I was confused in your question - are you waking up an hour after you go to sleep, or an hour earlier than you need to wake up in the morning?

While research suggests that we can "make up" for sleep lost during the week by sleeping in on weekends, this is not the best long term solution. In my practice I use a combination of melatonin and SAD light therapy over the course of a few weeks to help adjust someone's sleep-phase cycle. What we do know from research is that the body can effectively shift its sleep phase cycle by about 15 minutes every 3-4 days.

  • Are my night sweats related to my vitatmin D supplement?
    P1000628_small

I have not heard of this effect with my patients. My review of the medical research literatre also does not indicate that this is a side effect of vitamin D. Likely there is another cause.

  • Warts! How to rid oneself of this troublesome plague!
    P1000628_small

I am not sure what kind of warts you are referring to. The research (and my clinical experience) shows that using duct tape on hands warts really does work. It is cost effective, too. The research studies siting the protocol are available online, or through your doctor.

  • What holistic treatments should I try to stop the swelling in my ankles?
    P1000628_small

There are other factors to consider, including your general circulation health and nutrition. Two thoughts would be: Is there adequate protein in your diet? Is there excess salt?

  • What's good for low stomach acid?
    P1000628_small

I am not sure what his diagnosis is to answer your question specifically.

One of the general aspects that is important to healthy digestion is when and how we eat. Our digestive process requires time to prepare for the food entering the stomach. Cooking at home usually allows our senses to recognize the need to prepare for digestion because we are smelling and tasting the food 15-45 minutes before the food enters our bodies. Stimulation of salivation and salivary and digestive enzymes happens during this preparation phase.

Likewise, digestion occurs best in a relaxed environment (our parasympathetic state). Eating out in fast food scenarios, or eating while working, are two of the more significant ways that we impair our digestion.

A simple way to start a change would be to have a small glass of warm water with a squeeze of lemon juice before meals to stimulate digestion.
