  • What are the Manners of Facebook Friending?

I only friend people that I've actually met and know to be interesting.

It keeps the signal to noise ratio low in my feed.

You are an atypical expert, Russ. You stuck around to become part of the community.

I meant no offense- just my opinion.

  • Are the special topic week events a thing of the past on Qland?
    Image00666_small

I think the "experts" killed Questionland.

It went from being a fun community interacting with itself to a forum asking questions of "experts." By anointing people as the most qualified to answer on certain topics, the site stripped agency from its user base.

Too bad. Everybody has a perspective to offer.

  • I would like to take my medical marijuana on a flight from seattle to anaheim, what is the best way to transport my meds?
    Image00666_small

TSA allows people flying out of Washington to transport medical marijuana. Given that you're flying to California, another medical marijuana state, you should be fine... After all, you're only searched before boarding.

Since the TSA calls local cops for these infractions, you should be OK in Washington and Cali. Of course, marijuana is still illegal at the federal level, so you are kind of taking your chances that they won't call some kind of federal officer like a DEA officer. I'd call ahead and get the OK from the SeaTac TSA before you fly.

  • My condo building is being condemned for Sound Transit, advice for owners?

If there is a dispute over the eminent domain, ST will likely win.

They are known for being rather generous with compesation for those impacted by property acquisitions. My advice: make your case for a large settlement, but don't take it all the way to court. People who dispute the financial amounts in court typically leave with less than they were originally offered.

  • What's the best new burger place?
    Image00666_small

Seattle had something of a burger renaissance last year. Here are a few of the places that I’ve tried, ranked from worst to best.

    1) The Counter: The Counter has locally sourced, unusually high-quality ingredients for a chain. I visited the one in Ballard, where I was disappointed by the fact my burger wasn’t cooked the way I wanted it. Also, the fried stuff was no good (I got a sampler). Burger joints should have good fries. Grade: C.

    2) Built Burger: I think they are closed now, but Built Burger had a cool idea: Change the patty instead of piling more stuff on the patty. I had a chorizo burger, which is exactly as sounds- chorizo blended with beef in a patty. Similarly, they mixed up bacon burgers, and so on. They had great buns, the food was presented well, and I really liked them. But yeah… They’re closed now. (Technically, the sign on their storefront says they are “on pause,” but word is the owners have moved out of state.) It was a little spendy. Grade: B.

    3) Lunchbox Laboratory: I never went to the original in Ballard, but the South Lake Union location has good décor and awesome food. The burgers are cooked perfectly, the sheer volume of toppings is obscene (I think my bacon cheeseburger had more bacon than burger), and the tatertots, fries, and shakes are awesome. But they are also a little spendy. Grade: B.

    4) Uneeda Burger: In upper Fremont, Uneeda Burger hits the sweet spot by having kickass ideas for new burgers, quality ingredients (with an option for locally-sourced beef), and a slightly more affordable price point. The burger I usually get there is about $9; at Lunchbox Lab, the equivalent burger is $14. I like the unpretentious feel of the place, too. You order at the counter, sit at picnic tables, and chow down. The onion rings and fries are perfect. Grade: A.

Two places I want to try but haven’t hit yet:

    1) Li'l Woody’s in Cap Hill. I hear they have good stuff, and they are open late.

    2) Katsu Burger in Georgetown: A Japanese-fusion burger joint. They deep-fry their burgers in tempura batter. I suspect I am going to like it.

  • Little Red Day Spa - Couples Massage Questions

I've been to events at the Little Red Day Spa, and to say that the owner, staff, and clientele are sex-positive is a gigantic understatement.

    Be discreet and respectful.

  • Does anyone have experience getting a coat re-lined?
    Image00666_small

Sure. I have a leather jacket which I had re-lined and re-pocketed. I can't remember exactly how much I paid, but I think it was about $40 or $50 bucks- totally worth it.

I went to Adam Tailor, who runs a one-man shop on Jackson in Pioneer Square. He does good work for very reasonable prices, which also makes him very popular. Don't expect a two-day turnaround.

The People's Pub has fried pickles. In fact, their entire happy hour menu is pretty kickass.
