Many publishers freelance copyediting and proofreading, which would be a good way to get your foot in the door. Most publishing houses are in New York City, and there's a small publishing hub in the California Bay Area. If you're serious about publishing, I would try those areas; anywhere else is slim pickings. www.bookjobs.com is a good place to find internships and job opportunities. You can also get an entry-level position with a background in whatever kind of books the publisher does. So if you have a background in environmental issues, look for an environmental publisher. And like the others have said, publishing does not pay well, yet the jobs remain competitive. Technical writing and copy writing are in high demand and pay much better.   How do I stop my dog from always chewing and scrathcing on herself?

  0 0 My dog scratches and bites, as well. Vet gave us special food, but it didnt help. Also gave us a steroid to take every other day until the itching stopped, which really helps, but not meant for long-term use. I have found that using special shampoo is the most effective short-term solution. Vet said it's probably an airborne allergy, and I can give my dog allergy shots when it gets bad.   Doggie recommendation? I want a little buddy.

  1 0 I have a lhassa apso/shih tzu mix. He doesn't shed, but requires frequent hair cuts. Mellow personality, no separation anxiety (I can leave him at home during the day). He wasn't down with being crate trained, but otherwise fine trainability. Not very physically coordinated or athletic, but has plenty of energy for daily walks. Adorable personality, gets along fine with other dogs and with children. Though he greatly prefers humans over dogs. He does have some allergies that cause skin infections, so he's on a special diet. Lhassa apsos are supposedly prone to breathing problems because of their stubby noses, but I haven't encountered that yet. Highly recommended breed. No more than 25 pounds.
